Summary

One of the boldest military operations in history, D-Day occupies a special place in our national memory. This presentation focuses on that operation through two lenses: the courageous roles of the 16th US Infantry on Omaha Beach, and the important role that many Pennsylvanians played in making this victory possible. I include material from personal interviews with D-Day participants gained from my service with 16th Infantry in the 1980’s, and my historical mentor, Colonel Robert Black, the historian of the Army Rangers.
